Easter is one of the best time of the year to visit the Algarve. The weather is friendly, beaches are no longer empty and, overall, it smells like Spring is here and Summer is coming. It’s the perfect time for a holiday break, specially with family. With that in mind, we’ve put together a 4-day guide for Easter weekend, a fully eclectic break where golf is king.

April 19th - Good Friday

Morning: start early and take a look at Faldo Course. Designed by Sir Nick Faldo, this course, par 72, was built to cater to a more strategic game. Excellent as a holiday starter, it’s a first step to play and enjoy Amendoeira Golf Resort’s natural surroundings. While you’re playing, the rest of the family can relax in one of the pools or at the Clubhouse. The Kidz Club is guaranteed fun!

Lunch: ask the hotel concierge to rent you a car and take the A2 freeway on a smooth ride to the other side of the Algarve, where grilled fish is the delicacy to order. If the weather is good, as it should be, book a table at Caniço, in Prainha (Alvor). It’s an excellent beach restaurant, very difficult to book a table during Summer, but not so much in Easter. Taste their amazing fish that tastes like it was captured just minutes before landing on your plate.

Afternoon: go a bit further north, to Sagres, and visit the local Fortaleza. It’s a well worth ride, always by the coast, colder and wilder on that part of the region, but equally well sought after and known as one of the most beautiful Portuguese natural sites. It has history and a lot to see. Suited for a couple or family with kids.

Dinner: back to Amendoeira Golf Resort, and after a busy afternoon, we recommend a quieter evening, with dinner at the resort´s restaurant and time to plan the next day.

April 20th - Saturday

Morning: always start with golf. Today, get to know O´Connor Jnr. Course, a specially challenging course due to its lakes and water streams. It takes skills and precision. Are you up to it?

Lunch: take the A2 freeway, Albufeira bound, the mecca of Algarve’s tourism, always bubbly and full of people, although still relatively calm this time of the year. Stroll by the beach, visit old town Albufeira and stop at Ramires for the famous "frango à Guia". You’ll thank us later.

Afternoon: before going back to the hotel, make a pit stop in Vilamoura, another one of Algarve’s famous spots. The Marina is worth a visit. With its bars, restaurants and shops, it’s also a big nightlife attraction.

Dinner: enjoy the special evening Amendoeira Golf Resort has planned. A Portuguese music theme night, starting with drinks at 7pm and dinner afterwards, with live music with the band “Mar Fora”. Will you be up to a bit of dancing?

April 21st, Easter Sunday

Morning: it’s Easter Day, take the family on a golf treat to the Academy Course, a 9 hole course, ideal for beginners. When you get to the 7th hole, its ex-libris, stop and enjoy the beauty of playing over water.

Lunch: you really must have lunch in Cacela-Velha. Go to Casa da Igreja and taste the exquisite oysters and other wonderful food. Don’t expect sophistication, but for sure you’ll have an epic meal.

Afternoon: take the opportunity to explore the other end of the Algarve, the one nearest Amendoeira Golf Resort, and go to Vila Real de Santo António. Since you’re there, cross the river Guadiana to our neighbour Spain and visit Ayamonte. Two countries for the price of one.

Dinner: back to the hotel, leave the car and ask the concierge for a shuttle to take you to Faro old town, just a mere 10-minute ride. Have dinner at Faz Gostos, the best place to try typical Algarve cuisine. A reference restaurant in the region.

April 22nd - Monday

Morning: before leaving, have one last go at Faldo Course. Inhale the fresh air and take it with you, in a memory of a great Easter and even better golf.

Lunch and afternoon: this last day is dedicated to nature. Visit the Ria Formosa, one of the richest ecosystems in the planet, where you can decide to watch the natural fauna, hike or take a boat trip through the islands. It’s a wonderful way to say goodbye to such a wonderful region, as the Algarve.

Dinner: have one last dinner in Amendoeira Golf Resort and make plans to come back soon.
